Is RED SONJA (VOL. 7) #8 Good?
Previously, Red Sonja rescued Grace, a valiant redhead who was trying to save her sister from a dark sacrifice. Sonja closed a portal, accidentally unleashing Kulan Gath and several malevolent entities in the process. To defeat Kulan Gath, Red Sonja and Grace have joined forces to locate magical practitioners who can help them.
In this issue, Red Sonja, Grace, and Grace’s sister flee towards Grace’s aunt – a mystic and diviner. They’re pursued relentlessly by wolves, shadow creatures, and other deadly beings unleashed by Kulan Gath. Meanwhile, Dorian Runebinder, one of three sorcerers guarding the land, tries in vain to warn people that darkness is rising, but none will heed him. Kulan Gath hunts Dorian down, killing him to steal his power and learn the latest happenings in the realm.
To further thwart Red Sonja, Kulan Gath enlists a fearsome Frost Giant ally. The issue leaves us on a dramatic cliffhanger: Red Sonja facing down this giant and his horde of monsters.
Did you know that the character of Grace was inspired by a real-life cosplayer named Gracie the Cosplay Lass? Walter Geovani, the artist, modeled Grace after the famous Red Sonja cosplayer – a great tribute!
What we liked about Red Sonja Volume 7 #8
This issue boasts compelling character development, fast pacing, and decent dialogue. You can truly feel the overwhelming odds Red Sonja faces as new enemies threaten from all directions. The sense of impending doom makes for a gripping read.
What we didn’t like about Red Sonja Volume 7 #8
Unfortunately, the plot development – especially in the first half of the issue – feels disjointed. Transitions between scenes are abrupt, and the introduction of new characters is clumsy. This makes it more challenging for the reader to follow the flow of the story.
Art Quality
Walter Geovani delivers solid work. The homage to Grace the Cosplay Lass is a fun touch! The action sequences are well-rendered, and the character designs are strong. The shadow creatures, some of whom are new to the series, have a particularly striking visual presence.

RED SONJA (VOL. 7) #8 presents exciting action and advances the plot significantly. However, awkward scene transitions and character introductions make the read less smooth than it could be. Despite this, the art remains visually appealing.
