Is RED SONJA: EMPIRE OF THE DAMNED #1 Good?
The story kicks off with a prologue describing a valley in a forgotten corner of Hyrkania where a great battle was fought between two armies. The battle was decided by a powerful warlock who wiped out both armies and the villagers in the surrounding area, gathering up all the treasure in the process. Now, there’s supposedly a great treasure waiting to be found in a city with no name in this forgotten valley. Red Sonja finds herself in a pub, catching the eye of a mercenary who proposes an escape plan involving finding this hidden treasure. They join forces, but the mercenary is fatally wounded during their escape, leaving Red Sonja with the map tattooed on his body to guide her to the treasure.
The plot is straightforward, presenting Red Sonja’s character and her quest efficiently. It’s a lean, structured narrative that sets up the adventure swiftly.

What did we like about RED SONJA: EMPIRE OF THE DAMNED #1?
The dialogue is well-written, the pacing is good, and there’s plenty of action. It ticks all the boxes for what you’d want in a Red Sonja adventure.
What didn’t we like about RED SONJA: EMPIRE OF THE DAMNED #1?
However, there’s nothing particularly surprising or innovative in this issue. It feels like a standard Red Sonja adventure, lacking in originality.
How’s the Art?
This is the first time we’ve seen artwork from Alessandro Amoruso, and it’s impressive. There’s a high level of detail in the backgrounds, character designs, and panel composition. However, there’s a slight disconnect between the line work and the digital coloring, which may detract from the overall cohesion of the art.
