Is PROJECT RIESE #6 Good?
Sure, why not? Let’s just throw everything and the kitchen sink into this finale and call it a day. PROJECT RIESE #6 doesn’t make a lick of sense, but that’s probably the way Zac Thompson likes it.
When last we left Sam and his treasure-hunting friends, they fled through the tunnels of an underground Nazi/Martian(?) research station when the gigantic leader Martian(?), named Gott, pursued the team to an express elevator to the beyond. Now, Sam and his surviving friends leap into a spinning void that holds the gold train that disappeared earlier in the mini-series. Gott followed, leading to a gold bar throwing match, which killed Gott. However, Sam’s troubles aren’t over. The train reappears in the physical plane and crashes into the Hedge, where Sam finds himself surrounded by Russians(?).
Russians? Where did they come from? Martians? Who said the aliens were Martians? Look, this isn’t the kind of comic where you ask questions or expect anything to make sense. We can’t say for sure that the creators come up with their ideas by inhaling recreational chemicals, but it’s hard to imagine how a creative team could be so detached from sense and reality without a little chemical help.
What’s great about PROJECT RIESE #6? It’s over. We try our best to provide some positive feedback to emphasize why readers should buy this comic, but this is one of those rare exceptions where we can’t find anything constructively positive to say about this story, so all we can say is, “It’s over.”
What’s not so great about PROJECT RIESE #6? This story is a mess. Nothing makes sense, Thompson tries to work in allegorical points about Socialism and Jewish faith that are almost offensive in their misplacement, and the big climax is comedically bad.
How’s the art? Jeff McComsey deserves credit for trying to make the best of a bizarrely nonsensical script. The only reason you can follow what’s happening is through McComsey’s artwork, so kudos.

What’s PROJECT RIESE #6 About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our PROJECT RIESE #5 review to learn how Sam hitched a ride on an elevator to nowhere.
We begin with Sam punching a button on the elevator’s control panel, opening a portal to the spinning void that absorbed the gold train. Sam and his friends leap into the void, hoping to get the gold and escape Gott. However, Gott isn’t giving up so easily.
The giant alien leaps into the void, so Sam and his friends begin throwing gold bars at the giant, slug-like alien. One of the gold pallets breaks loose and cuts the alien in half. The train somehow exits the void outside the Owl Mountains to land in the middle of the Henge. Suddenly, Russian soldiers appear to confiscate the train.
We conclude the issue with a self-driving train without a track, a wreck, the American Way.

Final Thoughts

PROJECT RIESE #6 is a disastrous finale to end a disastrous mini-series. Nothing in this comic makes sense, plot developments come out of nowhere, and the art is just okay. We never discourage anybody from purchasing a comic, but we can’t say anything positive about this one.
