Is OZ: KINGDOM OF THE LOST #2 Good?
OZ: KINGDOM OF THE LOST #2 amps up the action, threat level, and mystery in David Wohl’s next entry in the three-part thriller. Fans of Zenescope’s Oz adventures will be delighted to know that this issue’s big reveal promises a world of hurt for Dorothy and her friends.
When last we left, Dorothy, Thorne, and all the rest, the group leaped down the proverbial rabbit hole into a series of caverns after the killer who stole Nicholas. Thorne was none too pleased that his children didn’t stay home as he commanded, so the fight took on an extra element of danger for the lion warrior. Now, the entire gang is together again to fight off monstrous worms, but it takes the surprise arrival of Nicholas to save the day. Unfortunately, Nicholas isn’t himself, and the Shaggy Man arrives to explain why Nicholas is needed more than ever.
If it sounds like the plot is confusing, it’s not. You get a lot of story for the cover price, and Wohl keeps the narrative flow clean and clear. All the characters are properly motivated, the characters make decisions that make sense, and Wohl sets up the big reveal perfectly.
What’s great about OZ: KINGDOM OF THE LOST #2? Wohl delivers a finely tuned, action-packed adventure from beginning to end. Not a single panel is wasted, and Wohl puts plenty of meat in the plot to give the comic direction and purpose.
What’s not so great about OZ: KINGDOM OF THE LOST #2? Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with this comic beyond a minor nitpick or two. It’s a solid read.
How’s the art? Excellent. Normally, two or more articles on a comic would be a red flag, but here, the art duties are split between the main issue and a backup story that acts as a prequel for the Shaggy Man’s origin. Focusing on Fajardo, the pencils/inks look great, the line work is detailed, and the overall visuals are eye-catching.

Check out our OZ: KINGDOM OF THE LOST #1 review to find out how Nicholas disappeared from his resting place.
We pick up mid-battle with Thorne and his children aiding Dorothy and her friends as they’re attacked by gigantic, grinning worms. Try as they might, they can’t defeat the beasts, but suddenly, Nicholas arrives to kill the worms with ease. However, Nicholas is not responsive to communication.
The Shaggy Man appears, explaining he was behind Nicholas’s theft and the death of the guards, but it was for an urgent reason. Reluctantly, Dorothy and the others agree to follow the Shaggy Man to hear his side of the story. The Shaggy Man’s trail leads to an underground city populated by former slaves of the Warlord of Oz and refugees from the surface.
The Shaggy Man explains he needed Nigcholas to protect the city from attacks coming from massive holes in the ground. We conclude the issue with an aftermath, an expedition into a kingdom with bright colors, and a familiar villain.
