Is MUNDUS TENEBRAS #2 Good?
Trippy! MUNDUS TENEBRAS #2 takes readers on a gory, soul-shaking tour of the world beneath our world when Ursula shows Father David the answers behind a young girl’s death. The first inklings of the answers will unsettle what you know about the forces of Heaven and Hell.
When last we left Father David, he spiraled into a bout of depression after a young girl at the center of his latest exorcism suddenly died during the ritual. During a night of binge drinking at a bar while on a leave of absence, Father David was approached by a woman named Ursula who seemed to know everything about Father David’s ordeal and promised to give him the answers he sought. Now, Ursula opens Father David’s eyes to the world of angels and demons all around us as she leads the good Father to a secret meeting that forces him to question his knowledge and faith.
As with the previous issue, be forewarned. This issue contains a fair bit of gore and (almost) explicit sexual imagery and nudity. Squeamish readers or readers averse to NSFW content should set their expectations accordingly.
What’s great about MUNDUS TENEBRAS #2? Pablo Stanisci’s concepts are surreal, disturbing, and creative. There’s no clear way to tell where this story is headed, but you get one big idea with a shocking reveal at the end, so the curiosity hook is strong for what happens next.
What’s not so great about MUNDUS TENEBRAS #2? While the big reveal is an attention-grabber, Father David’s walking tour through the supernatural layer of our world is unevenly paced and vague. The vaguery is more the fault of the art than the writing, but you may find your mind wandering in one or two spots while trying to figure out what’s happening.
How’s the art? Nieto’s art works until it doesn’t. The final scene where Father David is let in on a special banquet is shocking and effective. However, some of the walking scenes and his entry into a dancing club look unfinished and ambiguous.

[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our MUNDUS TENEBRAS #1 review to find out what happened to convince Father David that Ursula is on the level.
We begin with Father David and Ursula leaving the bar after he agrees to accept the answers she offers. Outside, Ursula tells Father David to remove his crucifix and put on a ring she gave him. As soon as Father David puts on the ring, he sees demons, phantoms, and grotesque buildings everywhere.
Ursula takes Father David by the hand and leads him from one establishment to the next where supernatural entities live out their daily lives around the living. The duo finally reaches the night club where Ursula explains special business meetings are held. The front of the club seems strangely normal, but when Ursula enters the back halls, Father David witnesses grotesque mutilations and sickening banquets.
We conclude the issue with honored guests, a family connection, and a lesson on possession.

MUNDUS TENEBRAS #2 is a surreal, disturbing tour of the supernatural underbelly where demons and angels do business away from human sight. Stanisci’s tale of a priest challenged by a new reality is unsettling, and Nieto’s art peppers in startling moments.
