Is MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #113 Good?
Melissa Flores continues the Darkest Hour arc with another Billy-centric issue as he travels the Morphin Grid back to Angle Grove to gather the remaining Rangers who haven’t been possessed by Dark Specter’s infection. MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #113 gives you Morphin action and ranger cameos galore, even if the plot feels a bit frazzled.
When last we left Billy, he took a trip through the inner workings of the Morphin Grid to get a true understanding of its purpose, courtesy of Grace’s A.I. hologram. Billy got as close to becoming one with the Morphin Grid as any Ranger could, and he left with possession of the knowledge and the tools to stop Mistress Vile and Dark Specter.
Now, Billy finds himself back where it all started in Angel Grove. Mistress Vile’s infection spreads by possessing any Ranger who morphs from the Morphin Gridd, so the Rangers’ power is now their greatest weakness. Armed with the tools given to him by A.I. Grace, Billy hatches a plan to reactivate one of the Master Arches and beat Mistress Vile at her own game.
Whoo! There’s a lot going on in this issue, and the sheer volume of appearances, cameos, and scene changes will either be a positive or a negative, depending on your point of view. For established MMPR fans, this issue is practically raining Easter Eggs from all the references and Ranger appearances. If you’re a casual fan, prepare to feel left behind in spots.
What’s great about MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #113? Armed with the knowledge of the Morphin Grid and a special present from Grace, Billy is the Ranger of the Hour, which is a special treat for OG MMPR fans. The harried pace and quick scene transitions build a sense of urgency and momentum toward a goal that’s eagerly anticipated.
What’s not so great about MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #113? It’s a lot. A casual reader, or even a regular reader who doesn’t get into the weeds of MMPR lore, may feel downright lost in spots. Flores got praise from us in the last issue because the Billy-centric story was simpler and more focused. Here, not so much.
How’s the art? Simona Di Gianfelice’s art is perfectly good for Flores’s script. The line work is solid, and Angulo’s colors are excellent.

Check out our MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #112 review to find out what Billy’s journey through the Morphin Grid was like.
We begin with Dr. Morgan, Shelby, and Tyler picking up an anomaly with the Morphin Grid. Dr. Morgan advises against Morphin until she can figure out the problem. Suddenly, Mistress Vile and Dark Specter appear through a portal, but when the Rangers move to intercept, the Rangers morph but become infected by Dark Specter’s darkness.
In another dimension, Billy returns to Angel Grove just in time to help fight off Elastique with the surviving Rangers. Later, the Rangers explain to Billy, who thinks he’s only been gone for a few hours, that he’s been absent for three days. Confused, Bily becomes enraged when he learns Drakkon has formed a temporary alliance with the team.
We conclude the issue with forced respect, a plan with slim odds, and exploding eggs.
