Is MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #112 Good?
MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #112 puts Mistress Vile and her evil machinations on the back burner for a Billy-centric issue to clarify what’s happening, how Dark Specter is gaining power, and what needs to be done to stop it. Melissa Flores’s lore-building issue could truly be the one that changes what you know about the Rangers forever.
When last we left the Rangers, Mistress Vile activated the Master Arch and freed the Dark Spectyer from its eternal prison, casting the Rangers into the void in exchange. Now, the Rangers slowly find each other on a desolate moon with wave after wave of thralls spilling out of a dark rift. Meanwhile, Billy finds himself in the Morphin Grid, a sliver existence that generates the Rangers’ power, and Grace is waiting for him.
“Wha… What the… Isn’t Grace dead?!?” you might wonder. Yes, Grace is dead. But Grace is still waiting for Billy in the Morphin Grid. Don’t worry. Grace’s presence is explained, makes sense, and could lead to interesting developments in the future.
What’s great about MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #112? Technically speaking, this could be considered a setup issue to establish the stakes and the quest at the heart of the Dark Specter arc. However, Flores introduces new elements that expand on Ranger lore while setting up the conflict, and you can’t help but marvel at all the cool new things to explore once the arc reaches a conclusion.
What’s not so great about MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #112? Mistress Vile and Dark Specter are completely absent from this issue. For all the urgency and tension built up to pay off the Dark Specter’s arrival at the last minute in the last issue, you’d think there’d be at least one scene to get acquainted with the evil one. But no, nope, nada, nunca, nothing, zip, and zilch.
How’s the art? When you follow the Rangers, you get typical Ranger-on Thrall action, which looks great, but by far, the visual highlight of this issue is Billy’s journey through the Morphin Grid. It’s not what you expect, and more than you could hope for, so Prasetya and Herms knocked the visuals out of the park.

[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #111 review to find out how the rangers got sucked through the master Arch into dangerous territory.
We begin with Billy waking up in a dark void that quickly fills with streaks of light. Before he has a chance to explore, Grace welcomes Billy to the Morphin Grid. Surprised to see Grace, she explains she’s a failsafe construct created by the original Grace through a neural link when the reconstruction of the Master Arch began. When Grace died, the construct version of Grace activated to help Billy with what comes next.
Meanwhile, the dispersed Rangers find themselves on a rocky planetoid as thralls spill forth from a dark tear in the sky. Eventually, all the Rangers find each other and band together to fight the thralls until they can figure out what happened.
We conclude the issue with an explanation of an infection, a pep talk, and an egg-cellent parting gift.
