Is It Good?
Did you ever have one of those days when nothing seems to be working out? One of those days where everything you try to accomplish falls apart? In MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #111, the Rangers are having one of those days.
When last we left the Rangers, the battle commenced on multiple fronts to stop Mistress Vile from getting her hands on the Master Arch that would allow the evil witch to free Dark Specter. What the Rangers didn’t realize at the time was that there was more than Master Arch, and the Rangers were looking for Mistress Vile in the wrong place.
Now, the Rangers find Grace Starling dead by Matt’s hand (or is she?), Billy explodes with rage, Zedd gets in everyone’s way, and Vessel lives up to his name.
That’s a lot to take in, but despite the number of competing subplots, Melissa Flores keeps all the threads flowing and moving in the same direction as the issue culminates in a killer cliffhanger.
What’s great about this comic? Flores’s script is wall-to-wall action, urgency, drama, and more Power Rangers than you can shake a stick at. You would think that with all those Power Rangers running around, Mistress Vile and her vile forces (heh) would be overwhelmed by an unstoppable army. However, enough misunderstandings, infighting, and separation happen to keep the Rangers off balance, giving Mistress Vile the opening to succeed in her mission.
What’s not so great about this comic? There are a LOT of Power Rangers running around, so unless you’re up to speed on all the versions of teams and their appearances in assorted media, anyone but diehard fans may get confused/lost very quickly. This point isn’t so much a criticism as it’s a warning.
How’s the art? Solid. Simona Di Gianfelice does a respectable job of making sense of all the chaos as the assortment of teams battle Mistress Vile’s army on multiple fronts. Plus, you have an important flashback and smaller battles aside from the bigger ones. The spectacle is impressive, even if the details and the finesse are just okay.

Check out our MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #110 review to find out what happened to Grace Starling.
We begin with a flashback several years ago when Matt first became the Green Ranger. His training failures shook his confidence, but Grace Starling was there to give him the tough love talk he needed. Now, the Power Rangers are shocked to see Matt standing over Grace’s lifeless body. Billy attacks Matt in a rage.
Elsewhere, Ranger Zedd is having trouble finding Mistress Vile on the battlefield, and he keeps bumping into his allied Zords during the battle at Safehaven. After a few criticisms of his driving skills, Ranger Zedd takes off in the Serpent Zord.
Elsewhere, Matt escapes the fight with Billy and seeks out Mistress Vile. When the Power Rangers chase after him, Mistress Vile uses the opportunity to take Matt hostage. We conclude the issue with an ultimatum, another team arrives to help, and the Vessel lives up to his name.

Final Thoughts

MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #111 ramps up the action, the chaos, and the consequences when the Rangers are divided, and Mistress Vile uses the opportunity to her advantage. There’s Morphin action aplenty, and plenty of drama, especially between Billy and Matt, but casual readers may have trouble keeping all the teams and individual Rangers straight.
