Is It Good?

When it comes to action comics, the old adage applies – Go Big, Or Go Home! Kudos to Melissa Flores for whipping up a comic in MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #110 that goes BIG and paves the way for the Darkest Hour arc in thrilling fashion.

Melissa Flores’s script centers on… well… every Ranger available to attack or defend Mistress Vale’s forces as she attempts to gain control of the Master Arch. The mind-controlled Green Ranger aids Mistress Vale in her quest. The Vessel’s true nature is revealed. Ranger Zedd makes a compelling offer for a truce. And a twist concerning the Master Arch makes everyone’s job a lot harder.

What’s great about this issue? MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #110 is wall-to-wall MIghty Morphin action, but it’s not just fighting for the sake of fighting. Flores maneuvers players into place to turn this issue into a chase plot where the goal is to get to Mistress Vale before she can get to the arch to enact the ritual. In other words, the action combines with the pace for a nail-biter of a comic.

What’s not so great about this issue? Big battles with lots of characters can be overwhelming and hard to keep track of, especially for new readers. If you’re not familiar with the source material and the different generations of Rangers, you’re going to have a tough time jumping into this comic.

How’s the art? Fantastic. Simona Di Gianfelice’s sharp, clean style articulates action and speed through every angle. The comic feels like it’s in constant motion, which is a big plus for an action-heavy comic with a driving pace.

What’s It About?

[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]

We begin with enemy ships arriving at Safehaven to begin a ground assault that will lead to Mistress Vale capturing the Master Arch. Meanwhile, Mistress Vale confronts Grace and the Vessel after the Vessel appears to have a change of heart. Mistress Vale strikes the Vessel down, revealing that the body underneath used to belong to Zordon.

Elsewhere, Billy and the Rangers discuss what happened to Green Ranger when Zedd arrives with a peace offering, Terona. Now that Zedd has Ranger powers, he offers a temporary truce until Mistress Vale is stopped.

Meanwhile, Grace is shocked when Mistress Vale shows her that she knows there’s more than one Master Arch. We conclude the issue with powerful fights, unexpected help, and a ritual.
