Was It Good?
MAN GOAT & THE BUNNYMAN: GREEN EGGS AND BLAM! #1 begins the latest adventure of the world’s most prolific cryptid monster hunters. As with all previous adventures starring Floyd (Bunnyman) and Phil (Man Goat), this first issue is filled with monsters galore, buddy cop vibes, bro problems, and a larger conspiracy to use the guys for evil designs.
There are two bright spots in this issue that make it a keeper.
First, Brusha injects a rare level of buddy charm into this issue. Phil and Floyd argue for the entirety of the comic, but they don’t argue about monster killing or grand social topics. They argue about women, namely Floyd’s belief that Phil is trying to bed Floyd’s “mom.” In lay terms, Phil and Floyd argue about guy stuff, and it’s an utter treat to see two characters carry on such an utterly authentic and natural argument about a human relationship topic. There’s no Western comic around right now where you see this type of organic relationship building.
Second, the art is gorgeous. Tarragona, Pereyra, and Esposito put together one of the best-looking titles in Zenescope’s lineup. The non-human character designs make sense for this world and look like they could be real, not cartoonish caricatures. With a few tweaks, Bunnyman could be believably adapted to film. Man goat would be even easier with the right prosthetics. In the description, the entire premise sounds goofy, but when you see it on the page, the visuals all work.
The minor down point is the lack of story focus in the first issue. between the prologue hunt for the Jersey Devil, the flashback to Floyd’s father, the argument over Floyd’s “mother”, the secret government agency harvesting inter-dimensional specimens, and the romantic entanglements, the story has a lot of threads going all at once and not all of them relate to each other.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
We begin with a flashback to a chase scene between a Lycan and Floyd’s father running through a forest. Floyd’s father escapes through a glowing portal that deposits him on Earth while he carries an infant Floyd in his arms. He’s met by a team of scientists and armed soldiers.
Now, Floyd and Phil camp in the New Jersey woods on their latest hunt to track down and eradicate the Jersey Devil. The campsite is not a happy one as Floyd is upset over his suspicion that Phil tried to have sex with Floyd’s human “mother,” Rachel. As the duo bicker, the Jersey Devil attacks, but Phil puts a quick end to the monster.
Later, the guys return to their secluded cabin home, but Floyd’s anger is unabated, and he goes for a walk. Deep in the woods, Floyd is attacked by a robot spider claiming to be his friend. Floyd runs away, and the robot gives chase. Floyd stumbles upon another campsite with cryptid friends such as Bigfoot, the Mothman, and the Jackalope. When the robot approaches, Bigfoot destroys it with a well-timed boulder toss.
We conclude the issue in the third act with secret files, secret laboratories, secret origins, and secret genetic plans.

Final Thoughts
(Click this link 👇 to order this comic)
MAN GOAT & THE BUNNYMAN: GREEN EGGS AND BLAM! #1 is the start of a surprisingly human and imaginative adventure for the cryptid duo. The dialog and relationship-building are great, and the art is even better. However, this first issue has a lot of separate threads going on, and the story tends to lose focus.
