Is LAZER BRAIN COMICS HALLOWEEN SPECIAL Good?

LAZER BRAIN COMICS HALLOWEEN SPECIAL isn’t a continuous story, but rather an anthology featuring ten short stories. Each story tackles a different spooky or sci-fi concept with a humorous twist.

This Kickstarter-funded anthology comes in at an oversized format and features the work of ten different artists alongside writer Ryan L. Higgins. While some stories contribute coloring or other artistic elements, Higgins is the main writer for all ten entries. The overall tone leans toward all-ages fun, with spooky elements that are more humorous than scary. Think “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” meets “Cracked” magazine.

Since the list of shorts is lengthy, check out the YouTube video (link above for a walk through of each.

What We Liked About “Laser Brain Comics Halloween Special”

This anthology offers a variety of spooky and silly stories, making it a great choice for all ages. It’s perfect for those seeking Halloween-themed entertainment that’s light on gore and heavy on humor.

What We Didn’t Like About “Laser Brain Comics Halloween Special”

Several stories feel incomplete, more like introductions or setups than fully developed narratives. The anthology might have benefited from fewer stories with more fleshed-out plots. “The Tomb Down the Street,” a collaboration between Higgins and Jeff Lorentz, stands out as the most complete and satisfying story in the collection.

Art Quality

It’s challenging to cite one or more individual artists because there is such a wide range of styles and perspectives for the collection of shorts. In general, the art style matches the tone and vibe of the type of skits Higgins is telling here. Again, what comes to mind is the cartoonish style you might find in Cracked magazine, which suits the comedic spookiness.
