Is JILL THE TREASURE HUNTRESS #1 Good?
As you might guess from the title, Jill is a treasure hunter, and she’s got a classic barbarian vibe. She infiltrates a booby-trapped ancient temple packed with weird puzzles. Inside, she finds a colony of strange, floating eyeballs – some even have tentacles and fuzzy green hair! This hive-mind collective tries to stop Jill from snagging the treasure. It’s simple: a dangerous hero against creepy monsters!
Jill battles her way through traps, including rooms with closing doors and a flooding tower. She hacks and slashes hordes of these floating eyeballs until she finally reaches their king for a big showdown. She wins, of course, and claims the treasure. But wait! Before she can make her getaway, she spots flying saucers on the horizon. Are these eyeballs actually aliens? We’re left with a massive cliffhanger, hinting at a much bigger adventure to come!
This comic is currently on Gumroad, an indie platform where creators set their own prices. While this issue is listed at $8, it’s a “pay what you think is fair” system. I’d say even paying the full $8 is worthwhile – it’s about 40 pages, so you get a lot of story! If you want to support these creators, I definitely recommend it.
What we liked about Jill the Treasure Huntress #1
Let’s cut to the chase: this was good! Silent issues are tricky; everything depends on the artist’s ability to tell the story through action and pacing. Journey Comics nails it. Hats off to both creators, but especially to Brian Loner for pulling this off.
You instantly understand Jill, her goals, and the obstacles she faces. The story zips along, and even though it’s simple, it’s incredibly effective. The art is solid – classic comic book style, nothing overly fancy. The focus is on action and movement, which works perfectly here!
What we didn’t like about Jill the Treasure Huntress #1
Honestly, there’s not much to dislike! Sure, you could wish for fancier art or more intricate character development, but for what it is, it delivers.
Art Quality
The art is classic comic book style. Think less Matt Groening and more grounded realism. It’s not overly detailed, but it emphasizes action and movement, which is key for a story like this.
