Was It Good?
It was quick. Very quick.
JAMES BOND: HIMEROS #5 marks the end of 007’s latest adventure with a “ripped from the headlines” plot about an island where the rich and powerful go to engage in every profane whim possible. Rather than following the real-life outcomes of Jeffrey Epstein, the person on which the story is based, the ending takes a different tack by focusing on the island master’s right-hand gal pal and her value as an involuntary witness.
Whenever we review the last issue of an arc, we address the issue in isolation and the series as a whole.
The issue, in isolation, is fine. Pacing is kicked up to 11 as compared to the previous issue, and it feels a little too quick at times. The art is not the best with thick, heavy outlines on all the characters that give the impression of being inked with a Sharpie marker. And the ending wraps up all the loose ends in a neat little package. Again, it’s a fine issue but there’s a notable absence of 007’s slick charm and tough-as-nails grittiness, leaving a generic after-taste.
The series, as a whole, tackles a salacious topic better than expected. There’s plenty of action, a surprising amount of moral conundrums to explore, and decent satisfaction from the bad guys getting their comeuppance. In all, this was a better-than-average arc for the world’s greatest super spy.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
If you don’t recall how 007 found himself about to be killed, first read our JAMES BOND: HIMEROS #4 review.
When last we left James Bond, his charge, Sarah Richmond was dead and the killer had James in his sights. What follows is an action-packed and explosive gun battle on Wilhelm Island’s private runway. The scene is intermingled with a flashback and narration concerning arms dealer Anton Banes and his imminent disgrace if his association with the island is found out.
Of course, James dispatches his would-be assassins and flies off in a private plane. His first priority is to get Sarah Richmond’s body and her notes to the authorities. His second priority is to infiltrate a private meeting between Barnes and a cadre of illegal arms dealers. We conclude the issue with 007 doing what he does best.

Final Thoughts
JAMES BOND: HIMEROS #5 very quickly wraps up the story with plenty of action and gun fights to avenge Sarah Richmond’s death and bring the villains to justice with extreme prejudice. The pacing is super brisk, almost too brisk, and the conclusion is satisfying enough, but the art is not the best.
