Is ICE CANYON MONSTER #3 Good?
In the previous issue, Fina finally regained consciousness after being in a medically induced haze following a sea monster attack that cost him his leg. Initially seen as crazy, Fina’s claims were validated by news reports of the monster’s attacks. However, tragedy struck when the monster’s assault resulted in the death of Fina’s brother.
In ICE CANYON MONSTER #3, news reports of the sea monster’s attacks escalate, drawing widespread attention. Meanwhile, a shaman named Akutak, driven by ecological concerns, reflects on his decision to summon the sea beast, known as Tupilaq. Despite the impending danger and loss, he believes he acted to protect Greenland’s environment.
As the sea monster intensifies its onslaught on cargo ships and oil rigs, Fina, still recovering in the hospital, instructs his shipmates to avoid the press and refrain from hunting the creature. However, he privately confides in one shipmate, hinting at his involvement with dark arts and a potential opposition to the shaman’s spell.
The ecological themes in the comic are portrayed without being heavy-handed. The internal monologue and exposition provide insight into the shaman’s motivations. Fina’s involvement with dark magic adds intrigue to the storyline.

How’s the Art?
Jonnuel Ortega’s art style, characterized by sketchiness and flat compositions, may not appeal to everyone. The inconsistent portrayal of the sea monster’s design and size is a notable drawback. Some panels lack detail, particularly in wide shots, affecting the overall visual appeal.
