Is HUMBABA #3 Good?
Ricky Sikes takes the weird and wild tale of mutant horror on the Bayo and cranks the heat up even higher when Gil encounters mutants and monsters that would send a weaker man screaming in HUMBABA #3. Hang on to your barf bag. It’s about to get gross.
When last we left Gil, he instinctively returned to the bar where he met the old woman who gave him the witch corn that transformed Humbaba into a monster. The old woman told Gil about the horrific science experiments taking place in the swamps over years and how a fateful decision unleashed those horrors into the swamps when the facility was shut down.
Now, Gil is determined to stop Humbaba before it kills anyone else, but he has to fight his way through a trio of backwoods mutant people, giant mugs, monstrous toads, and unbelievably large insects to pick up the monster’s trail. When Gil finds a slaughtered family, the grisly scene leads him to Humbaba’s tracks, but when he catches up to the monster, Humbaba has already evolved into something intelligent and malevolent, planning the downfall of humanity.
Gil leaps to attack, but the upgraded Humbaba slaps Gil away like a toy, sending Gil into an open grave where a strangely masked gravedigger is waiting.

What did we like about HUMBABA #3?
Gil’s weird, wild adventure through the swamps to hunt Humbaba gets weirder and wilder in this issue when you witness how the mutants unleashed from the lab have multiplied and adapted over the years into a nightmare tableau. Plus, Humbaba’s evolution is a terrifying upgrade.
What didn’t we like about HUMBABA #3?
The final scene involving Gil landing in an open grave is a little too weird, verging on unintentionally comical. So far, the series has maintained a level of conviction that keeps the more outlandish aspects of the monsters and plot in check. The slap into an open grave was a tad too much.
How’s the Art?
Ricky Sikes’s art style nails the weird, gonzo aspects of the monsters and mutants beautifully. Further, this is an action-heavy issue, and the energy and choreography (barring the aforementioned slap) are well done.

Final Thoughts
(Click this link 👇 to order this comic)
HUMBABA #3 cranks the gonzo insanity up five more notches as cybernetic Gil encounters malignant mutants and menacing swamp monsters on his hunter to stop a killer. The pacing, action, character designs, and art are on point. But for an out-of-place action sequence toward the other, this would be a killer issue.
