Analysis of HOUR OF THE WOLF #4:
Plot:
After stumbling into 1888 in Hour of the Wolf #3, Owen and Jan fight the monstrous spider long enough to escape. When they leaped through the next closest door, they ran into the Businessman, who demanded Jan be turned over to him, or Owen would be trapped forever. Owen countered with a new offer – Owen will stay if the Businessman lets Jan go. The issue ends with the Businessman getting everything he wants but not what he can handle.
Artwork and Presentation:
Danilo Beyruth’s art brings the finale to a climactic finish when Owen fights giant spiders, uses hooks and chains to cut through the illusion world, and blazes a trail to a satisfying finish.
Art Samples:

Character Work:
Owen takes a step forward in his evolution by not bowing to the Businessman’s manipulations. The Businessman uses Owen’s past against him, but Owen’s confirmation that he’s on the path to redemption shows great promise.
Structure:
Mark London’s pacing, flow, and build-up to a satisfying conclusion are on point. The ending also sets up the possibility of continuing adventures with Owen or other members of Wolvenheart in a series of episodic adventures.
Strongest Point(s):
The strongest aspect of Hour of the Wolf #4 is Owen’s clever deception to trick the Businessman into taking a deal without considering the consequences. The best twists are the kind where you can follow as it unfolds but couldn’t predict before it happens.
Weakest Point(s):
The minor weak point is a confusing bit of ambiguity surrounding Owen’s final move to return from whence he came. The first issue made it sound as if he had to return by a certain time or be trapped, but the last moments made it seem as if Owen had more control over that rule.
Final Thoughts:

HOUR OF THE WOLF #4 is a strong finale to a super strong spinoff to one of Mad Cave’s most successful series. Mark London’s conclusion brings the conflict with the Businessman to a satisfyingly clever close, and Danilo Beyruth’s art is excellent.
