Is It Good?
HEAT SEEKER: A GUN HONEY SERIES #2 takes the art of deception to new heights (depths?) when Dahlia finds refuge with an old magician friend where we learn more than one illusion is already in play. Charles Ardai delivers an entertaining cat-and-mouse story that leaves you disbelieving your own eyes.
Ardai’s script center on the aftermath of Caesar’s very public death at the hands of Sarah Claride. But not all as it seems when Sarah denies her involvement to her employers, leading to fakes, double-fakes, and misdirections aplenty to deliver one surprise after another.
What’s great about this issue? Between Gun Honey and Heat Seeker, Charles Ardai proves he knows how to bring slick charm, gritty action, and sultry heat in equal measure. Dahlia is as formidable a fighter and master of deception as she is a seductress. When attacked by an enraged gunner, Dahlia is impressively cool under pressure while displaying wit and charm.
What’s not so great about this issue? Realistically, nothing. Ardai achieves exactly what he sets out to do. He delivers a strong plot with plenty of surprising twists. Every character, good or bad, is engaging enough to follow. And the issue’s big twist is one you won’t see coming, leading to a cliffhanger you won’t see coming. Surprise, when done right, is a winning aspect of a comic.
How’s the art? It’s impossible not to critique a Gun Honey spinoff series without viewing it through the lens of comparison to Ang Hor Kheng. That said, Continuado and Zapata measure up with energetic action, dramatic panel angles, and sexy figure work.

What’s It About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our HEAT SEEKER: A GUN HONEY SERIES #1 review to meet Dahlia for the first time.
We begin with Dahlia watching from a safe distance as the authorities take down Caesar’s body from its hanging position outside a Las Vegas casino. Distraught over Caesar’s death, Dahlia heads to Elysia’s place to retrieve her emergency kits and physical therapy.
Suddenly, their quality time is interrupted by a woman with a sensitive trigger finger at the hotel door. Caesar’s sister, Tala, has come to avenge her brother’s death. Eventually, Dahlia calms Tala down, and the two agree to help each other long enough to find out why Caesar’s body has disappeared.
We conclude the issue with a magician’s act, a vanishing act, and a killing act.
