Analysis of HEAT SEEKER: COMBUSTION #2:

Plot:

After the attack on the Montefiacco convent in Heat Seeker: Combustion #1, Rosaline was spirited away by Evie, aka Lady Godiva, when the killer turned on her partner. Now, Dahlia brings her years of training to bear with high-wire acts, trick ski maneuvers, and more to catch up. Unfortunately, tricks aren’t enough, but when Dahlia and Caesar dig into Evie’s change of heart, they learn Rosaline may be more of a deadly experiment than a daughter to Professor Preiss.

Artwork and Presentation:

Ace Continuado and Juan Castro have a diverse action-fest on their hands when Dahlia has to do everything from walk tightropes to create skiing illusions. The action choreography is first-rate, and of course, Ardai’s script dreams up an excuse for titillating nudity in a later scene.

Character Work:

Charles Ardai keeps our central hero on point by making her laser-focused on recovering Rosaline by staying cool, calm, and collected under pressure. However, Evie is a little hard to read since her motives for not kidnapping Rosaline in the beginning are convoluted.

Pacing:

Ardai’s script hits the ground running by picking up the chase from the end of the last issue and not stopping for a moment. When the story eventually shifts to Austria, the energy doesn’t let up one wit.

Strongest Point(s):

The highlight of this issue is the relentless pace and action. Ardai’s script, combined with the art team’s output, gives readers a non-stop adventure.

Weakest Point(s):

The low point of this issue is the convoluted explanation of Evie’s motivation. She has a connection to Professor Preiss and Rosaline that’s implied and talked around but not stated outright.

Final Thoughts:

HEAT SEEKER: COMBUSTION #2 turns up the action when Dahlia chases Evie across Europe to recover Rosaline. Charles Ardai’s script starts at a sprint and doesn’t let up, and the art team’s action choreography is first-rate.

Score: 8/10
