Analysis of GRIMM FAIRY TALES (VOL. 2) #95:
Plot:
Skye Mathers gets a mind full of Mircalla’s memories when the vampire queen continues to drink Skye’s blood after the events of Grimm Fairy Tales (Vol. 2) #94. The blood-drinking by a well-thrown stake by Liesel Van Helsing. Winter, as it turns out, didn’t die when she was thrown into the abyss when she climbed up and joined her friends in a fight against Mircalla and her vampire army.
Skye and her friends destroy the lesser vampires and chase Mircalla into another cavern, where Winter finds her friend, Laura, has been turned. Mircalla orders Laura to attack. Winter fights Laura while Skye and the rest fight Mircalla. Winter’s love and memory of her friend help Laura get control of herself, and Mircalla is forced into retreat. The issue ends with Laura coming to Arcane Acre for treatment and protection.
Artwork and Presentation:
Babisu Kourtis presents one of the better-looking issues in the series. The overall linework is decent, and Jorge Cortes’s color selections are a standout. That said, Kourtis’s inks get rough in spots.
Art Samples:

Character Work:
Above and beyond the action, Dave Franchini’s script heavily leans on the emotional connection between the characters to move the story forward. In particular, Winter’s longtime friendship with Laura serves as the emotional heart that saves the day.
Structure:
Franchini’s story isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s perfectly solid and gets the job done. Vampire uses emotional manipulation to weaken the heroes, heroes band together to overcome the threat, and love wins in the end.
Strongest Point(s):
The strongest point of the story is the all-out vampire battle which takes up most of the book. This issue feels like a proper finale to the arc.
Weakest Point(s):
Beyond the art inconsistency, the weak point is the soft resolution to the conflict. Winter saves Laura by remembering why they’re friends (lame!), and Mircalla gets away because nobody was paying attention (also, lame!)

GRIMM FAIRY TALES (VOL. 2) #95 is an action-packed finale to the arc, pitting the Shang Gang against an infamous vampire queen and her legion. Dave Franchini’s solid-yet-basic script gets the job done, and the art is okay.
