Is GRIMM FAIRY TALES (VOL. 2) #83 Good?

In the previous issue of Grimm Fairy Tales, Skye had just wrapped up an adventure with Mystere, the resident Voodoo superhero of Zenescope, thwarting the plans of the Congregation of the Dead, a cult seeking control over the world’s ley lines.

In Grimm Fairy Tales (Vol. 2) #83, the story takes a turn as Skye plans to unwind on the beaches of Greece. However, her relaxation is abruptly interrupted by Belle, also known as Belle the Beast Hunter, who recruits Skye for a mission involving the theft of a magical artifact.

Belle seeks Sky’s help to steal the Jewel of Dilmun, a powerful item that can lift a curse from her brother, currently trapped in a bestial form. Despite Belle’s vague explanations, Sky agrees to assist her. They infiltrate a special auction where the artifact is being sold, but their plans go awry when they inadvertently destroy the precious item during a skirmish. Subsequently, they find themselves at the mercy of Gomes, the auctioneer, who demands restitution for their actions.

What did we like about GRIMM FAIRY TALES (VOL. 2) #83?

The issue introduces an intriguing team-up between Skye and Belle, diverging from the usual storyline involving Lovecraftian elements. The concept of delving into Greek mythology adds depth to the narrative, expanding the scope of the characters’ adventures. Additionally, the progression of Belle’s quest to find a cure for her brother’s curse adds a compelling layer to her character development.

What didn’t we like about GRIMM FAIRY TALES (VOL. 2) #83?

One notable flaw is Belle’s failure to adequately explain the importance of the artifact to Skye, leading to misunderstandings and preventable mishaps. Furthermore, the characters’ actions during the confrontation with Gomes’s minions seem out of character, undermining the credibility of their strategic abilities.

How’s the Art?

The artwork by Babisu Kourtis in this issue, unfortunately, falls short of expectations. The lack of standout moments or visually striking panels detracts from the overall impact of the comic. Some instances of awkward character poses and composition diminish the aesthetic appeal of the illustrations.

GRIMM FAIRY TALES (VOL. 2) #83 presents an interesting premise with the team-up of Skye and Belle, offering potential for character development and exploration of mythological themes. However, shortcomings in storytelling execution and mediocre artwork prevent the issue from reaching its full potential.
