Analysis of GREEN HORNET/MISS FURY #3:
Recap:
When we last left the unlikely team-up of pulp heroes in Green Hornet/Miss Fury #2, Green Hornet and Miss Fury decided to follow the investigation on separate trails when the two couldn’t work together and get along. Independently, the two heroes learned about the murder of another vigilante, The Zebra, and crossed paths at the morgue. The issue ended when Green Hornet responded to a plea for help by Kato after the henchman was stabbed by The Clown.
Plot Analysis:
In Green Hornet/Miss Fury #3, the weirdly disjointed murder mystery continues. In a flashback, the city’s heroes gather aboard a zeppelin to network and trade notes. Silver Shrike aggressively offers to train Kato, but Green Hornet’s sidekick declines. Later, Silver Shrike aggressively offers to train Miss Fury, but unlike Kato, she accepts.
Now, Green Hornet continues his fight against the Clown and her deadly blades. Kato intervenes just as the police arrive. The police arrest Clown (off-panel, maybe) and try to arrest Green Hornet and Kato. Kato activates the remote features on his new Black Beauty to deliver a sonic blast that gives the heroes an opening to escape.
The police put out an APB for Green Hornet and Kato. During their flight, Green Hornet receives a message from Lenore that Silver Shrike is alive and wants to meet. Kato believes the message is fishy, but Green Hornet refuses to listen.
The issue ends with Miss Fury waking up to the shadow of her old mentor, Kato driving into a trap, and a hero coming to blows with an ally.
First Impressions:
Green Hornet/Miss Fury #3 sort of makes sense, but only in isolation. Within the context of the overall arc, each issue gets increasingly disjointed and disconnected from what came before. You get the distinct impression Alex Segura and Henry Barajas had a vague concept in mind but got too caught up injecting as many twists and turns as possible because the plot is a mess.
Artwork and Presentation:
On the whole, Federico Sorressa’s art is solid. The character designs look as grounded as possible with the use of very dated costumes. The action is relatively well done, and Lesly Atlansky’s coloring is excellent.
Art Samples:

Story Positives & Negatives:
The Positives:
Beyond the art, the highlight of Segura and Baraja’s story is the surprising number of twists and turns intermixed with engaging action. Specifically, rapid pace and high energy go a long way toward covering the structural flaws of the plot.
The Negatives:
It’s never a good sign when the story is presented in such a way that you come to believe the writer’s lost focus or got lost along the way. After three issues, it’s hard to pinpoint the nature of the mystery or if the heroes know what they’re doing.
It’s clear Segura and Barajas are trying to create an emotional conflict for Green Hornet when the evidence points to a suspect the Green Hornet doesn’t want to acknowledge, but there’s a difference between resistance and stupidity. This issue almost goes out of its way to show that the Green Hornet is a terrible detective.
Final Thoughts:

GREEN HORNET/MISS FURY #3 assaults the reader with more twists and turns than a runaway rollercoaster, but the plot is a confused, convoluted mess. Alex Segura and Henry Barajas present several interesting ideas, but the execution is woefully flawed. If nothing else, at least the art is fairly good.
