Analysis of GREEN HORNET/MISS FURY #2:
Recap:
When we last left the Green Avenger and his Feline Femme Fatale in Green Hornet/Miss Fury #1, the masked vigilantes grudgingly teamed up to stop a serial killer hunting masked vigilantes, including their mutual mentor, Silver Shrike. The issue concluded with the unlikely duo surrounded by a mob of gangster thugs in an abandoned warehouse.
Plot Analysis:
Green Hornet/Miss Fury #2 begins where the previous issue’s cliffhanger left off. Hornet took the worst of the beating from the mob. Despite his best efforts, a stray fist knocks him out. Unconscious, Green Hornet recalls a conversation he had with his mentor, Mercado, aka Silver Shrike, years ago about knowing when you can’t do everything on your own. When Green Hornet wakes up, he’s on the roof of a building and Miss Fury holds the last thug over the rooftop edge to get him to squeal.
During the interrogation, Green Hornet suggests that he and Miss Fury should work together. They both acknowledge they know each other’s secret identity, and they part with the understanding that they want the same thing.
Later, Green Hornet receives word that another vigilante, the Zebra, was murdered, so he heads to the morgue to investigate. Independently, Miss Fury receives word about the murder from her source, so she changes into civilian clothes and leaves her apartment to investigate.
The issue ends with Miss Fury getting ambushed, Kato getting stabbed, and Green Hornet encountering the killer’s hench(wo)man – The Clown.
First Impressions:
The ideas and the central concepts in Green Hornet/Miss Fury #2 are there, but the flow is awkward and clumsy. If you love classic Public Domain characters, you’ll probably enjoy this issue simply for the novelty of the characters who pop up, but if you want a comic that reads well, Green Hornet/Miss Fury #2 is a struggle.
Artwork and Presentation:
Federico Sorressa brings the characters to life with a grounded, gritty style that suits the noir aspects of the story. Sorressa’s pencils and chalk-like inks add to the charm by creating a weathered, old-timey aesthetic that brings you into the past, which helps set the stage.

Story Positives & Negatives:
The Positives:
At the heart of Green Hornet/Miss Fury #2 is an intriguing mystery starring strong-willed and capable characters with distinctly different styles for solving crime and personalities. Alex Segura and Henry Barajas’s murder mystery does a respectable job setting up a detective noir murder mystery in a world where superheroes exist, and the vibe feels right for a period piece.
The Negatives:
What doesn’t work is the narrative flow and scene transitions. Some scenes jump from one place to the next without a clear transition. Other scenes start out of the blue without pretext or setup. You can generally figure out what’s happening, but the last act is bizarrely clunky and hard to follow.
Final Thoughts:

GREEN HORNET/MISS FURY #2 deepens the mystery behind a serial killer targeting vigilantes. Alex Segura, Henry Barajas, and the art team do a commendable job crafting a detective noir mystery that feels authentic for the characters and the period. That said, the overall reading experience is clunky, and the last act is hard to follow.
