Is DUKE #2 Good?
DUKE #2 offers a dynamic blend of action and good pacing. The camaraderie and chemistry between Duke and Clutch, the main Joe character he seeks help from, add wit and charm, reflecting their long-standing history. However, the issue fast-paced action doesn’t leave room for much plot progress, with more setup than actual developments, making it a quick but mildly enjoyable read.
Recapping from the previous issue, Duke, dealing with the aftermath of encountering a Decepticon, has become an Enemy of the State. Seeking help from an old friend, Clutch, known for his expertise in technology, Duke aims to gear up and recover from injuries sustained in earlier events.
An interesting aspect of this issue is the introduction of several GI Joe characters making their first-time appearances, including a villain not seen in previous series from Image Comics. This adds anticipation for future developments.
General readability and pacing contribute to the comic’s enjoyment, emphasizing the natural chemistry between Duke and Clutch. However, a drawback lies in grammar mistakes and word arrangement issues, detracting from the overall experience.
Regarding the art by Tom Reilly, it’s surprisingly appealing. While not overly detailed, Reilly captures characters and facial expressions well. The art style, featuring a crime noir feel with a focus on silhouettes and contrast between light and dark, complements Duke’s on-the-run narrative effectively.

DUKE #2 is a positive step for Skybound and Image Comics. Despite minor grammar foibles and a feeling of being a setup issue, the overall experience is fast-paced, action-packed fun.
