Is DISTEMPER #2 Good?
Distemper #2 plunges us headfirst into a gritty, tense narrative. The issue opens with a brief summary of the dog flu apocalypse, setting the stage for the immediate action that picks up from the cliffhanger of the previous issue. Expect violence, a relentless pace, and an atmosphere where the real threat isn’t the flu, but the depravity of human nature.
Marv and his crew, having offered aid to a kidnapped mother, find themselves embroiled in a brutal confrontation with a group of ruthless survivalists. A bloody battle ensues, leaving no survivors intended. The story then takes a dark turn as the team discovers the horrifying truth of the survivalists’ activities in their basement.
Interestingly, Distemper is set to be paired with a tabletop RPG game launching on Kickstarter later this year. This adds another layer of engagement for fans of the world and genre.
What We Liked In DISTEMPER #2:
- High Tension: If you crave the edge-of-your-seat feeling of constant danger, Distemper #2 delivers. The cat-and-mouse chase through the house and the fight for survival keep you on the edge of your toes.
- Moral Complexity: The comic confronts the harsh realities of a post-apocalyptic world, where desperation and fear can drive people to unthinkable acts. This moral ambiguity adds depth to the story.
- World-Building: The glimpses into the world ravaged by the dog flu effectively set the stage and contribute to the overall atmosphere.
Room for Improvement In DISTEMPER #2:
- Exposition Dump: The initial pages dedicated to explaining the apocalypse feel like a slog, interrupting the pacing. Integrating this information more organically through dialogue or flashbacks could improve the flow.
- Slow Start: While the action eventually picks up, the initial exposition makes the beginning feel drawn-out.

DISTEMPER #2 offers a gripping narrative in a brutal post-apocalyptic setting. If you enjoy The Walking Dead’s exploration of human nature amidst societal collapse, this comic is worth checking out. Be prepared for some initial exposition, but once the action starts, it doesn’t stop.
