Is DEAD DETECTIVE #5 Good?
Previously, Detectives Jim and Rex found themselves facing off against a horde of demons in the Forest of Asphodel. Meanwhile, Jim’s wife, Amanda, took matters into her own hands, digging up Rex’s grave in search of answers. Oh, and let’s not forget about the unexpected reunion between Rex and his former flame, Lilith the succubus. Things were heating up, quite literally!
Now, onto the grand finale! With Amanda digging up Rex’s grave and old case files resurfacing, it’s a race against time as the truth unravels. Cue the dramatic entrance of cult leaders, hell-bent on completing a sinister ritual. But fear not! Rex and Jim are on the case, each facing their own battles to save the day. From demonic showdowns to heart-pounding confrontations, it’s a wild ride to thwart the apocalypse and reunite our heroes.

What did we like about DEAD DETECTIVE #5?
This issue really nails the resolution, tying up loose ends and delivering closure to our beloved characters. Kudos to Sandlin for steering the ship towards a satisfying conclusion. And let’s not forget the stunning artwork by Jansen, perfectly capturing the eerie atmosphere and intense action sequences.
What didn’t we like about DEAD DETECTIVE #5?
Now, onto the flip side. While the story wraps up nicely, it’s hard to ignore the heavy exposition and rushed plot developments. Sandlin had to work overtime to fill in the blanks left by previous issues, resulting in a somewhat overcrowded narrative. Plot pacing could’ve been smoother, especially in the earlier parts of the arc.
How’s the Art?
Speaking of art, Jansen knocks it out of the park with their dynamic illustrations and striking demon designs. The visuals truly elevate the story, immersing readers in a world where the supernatural meets the gritty streets of Asphodel. A round of applause for a job well done!
