Is DARKWING DUCK #10 Good?
Amanda Diebert brings Darkwing Duck’s current globetrotting adventure to find a kidnapped Launchpad to a close with globetrotting adventure in DARKWING DUCK #10. Readers who’ve enjoyed the series so far will find every character gets a nod, Darkwing learns a valuable lesson, and the mysterious villain that started this adventure is finally unmasked.
When last we left Darkwing Duck and his avian friends, Herb’s nifty gadget for keeping track of borrowed cookware came in handy when Darkwing discovered he could use the gadget to track Launchpad’s location – the mysterious city of Ducklantis. Now, Darkwing’s airbreathing allies cram into a sub to seek out the one person who can help, Neptunia, to guide the new Justice Ducks to Launchpad’s kidnappers, but Darkwing will have to eat a little humble pie first.
If you’re wondering what the description means by ‘final,’ this issue appears to be the end of the series for now. We’ll keep an eye out for future announcements about the series’ return, but this is it for the foreseeable future.
What’s great about DARKWING DUCK #10? Deibert brings the series to a close with a teeny bit of character growth for Darkwing Duck, the introduction of a new villain, and a newly-reformed Justice Ducks. If you, like us, prefer a complete ending that doesn’t simply return all the characters to the same status quo, the creative choices Deibert makes are a net positive.
What’s not so great about DARKWING DUCK #10? It’s unclear if issue #10 was always planned to be the end, but it certainly feels Rushed with a capital ‘R.’ You can follow the story well enough, but too many introductions, developments, and conclusions happen off-panel or exposition. The villain’s reveal and background, Launchpad’s rescue, and the conclusion are all crammed into a scant four pages.
How’s the art? The art is superb. Rushed or not Carlo Lauro perfectly nails the Disney aesthetic.

Check out our DARKWING DUCK #9 review to find out how Herb was the key to saving Launchpad.
We begin with Darkwing Duck and his friends crammed into a small sub to find Launchpad’s location under the sea using Herb’s tracker. Launchpad appears to be held in the mythical city of Ducklantis, and Darkwing’s only choice is to humble himself to ask Neptunia for help to get there.
Darkwing Duck does the unthinkable – asks for help – and Neptunia agrees to lead the sub down a hidden passage to Ducklantis. There, they find the hooded villain responsible for all of Darkwing’s troubles and Launchpad’s kidnapping. We conclude the issue with a flashback, a vendetta, and the new Justice Ducks.

DARKWING DUCK #10 brings the DW’s latest adventure, and the series, to a close with undersea adventure, character growth for the Duck Who Flaps In The Night, and a new villain. Deibert wraps up all the loose ends, and Lauro’s Disney style looks great, but the ending feels exceptionally rushed.
