Is CREEPSHOW (VOL. 2) #5 Good?
Well, you can’t win them all. In an otherwise faithful and entertaining volume in the horror anthology series, CREEPSHOW (VOL. 2) #5 is a mixed bag with one story that hits the mark and one that falls on deaf ears.
Of the two short stories, DB Andry and Tim Daniel’s tale about a monster under the bed works as a traditional horror story with a twist while tapping into a life lesson about sticking with what you love.
Conversely, Saladin Ahmed’s heavy-handed sermon about keeping adult topics away from children lands with a thud. You can win ’em all.

Burning Ambition
A politician builds his platform on burning comics designed to indoctrinate children with occultism, transgenderism, and every hot-button political issue you can imagine. When the politician’s local support grows to aspirations for a higher office, he finds the medium of comics may have a panel lesson to teach in return.
Saladin Ahmed’s tale of comics fighting back against censorship takes a heavy-handed approach to a complex topic when the politician is sliced diced, punched, and burned by a comic he’s made part of. The politician’s painful demise feels consistent with a typical Creepshow-style story, and Artyom Topilin’s art does a solid job of conceptualizing an abstract “punishment,” but Ahmed’s theme comes off as a tone-deaf sermon.
Keep It Fed
Ernest is having trouble staying away from the monster under his bed, but he figures out you can keep the monster away by feeding it what you love. In Ernest’s case, he loves comics. Years later, Ernest’s father has enough of his son staying in his room and reading comics all day. When the father uses a little “tough love,” the monster finds a rare treat is cooking.
Keeping with the comics theme, Andry and Daniel tell a satisfying tale about monsters, enjoying what you love, and finding your place in the world. Under the enjoyable message is a life lesson that all comic lovers can understand, but the basic plot is still a delight for horror fans.

CREEPSHOW (VOL. 2) #5 delivers two comics-themed tales of terror to wrap up the volume. Andry and Daniel’s story about a monster under the bed is the winner in this anthology for tapping into a universal life lesson about loving your hobbies. Sadly, Saladin Ahmed’s preachy story lands with a thud.
