Is CREEPSHOW (VOL. 2) #3 Good?
CREEPSHOW (VOL. 2) #3 is the second strong entry in the latest volume by Image Comics. If you’re a fan of horror short stories where the main character grapples with their choices turning out very badly, you’re in for a good one.
Of the two shorts, Joel Farrelly’s looks and reads more like a traditional classic gore fest from the pages of Creepy or Eerie magazine. Thorogood’s short has a different style and vibe, making it similar to a story from 2000 AD. In other words, you get two stories with very different tones, but they both deliver the goods in terms of chills and potent imagery.

As with all our anthology reviews, we’ll cover each short in brief and what worked or didn’t
Eternity, Eternity, Eternity
A woman fueled by the painful tragedies of life endeavors to create a serum that will make her and everyone else live forever. Unfortunately, she can only make one dose, which she tests on herself. In the end, the woman learns that watching everyone suffer and die for millennia can get pretty boring.
Zoe Thorogood tackles the philosophical question – Who wants to live forever? – with a tale of wars, plagues, and the end of all things. The montage storytelling style feels disjointed at first, but when the story settles in, Thorogood’s tragic tale and melancholy art combine for a solid short.
Sacrifices
Eddie makes a good living finding rare items for unscrupulous collectors. When his latest bounty for a unique gem puts him in the middle of a double-cross between a dangerous collector and the collector’s wife, Eddie finds out his precious item is meant for a higher purpose that no amount of money can pay off.
Poor Eddie. Joel Farrelly’s tale of scheming double-crosses and Lovecraftian nightmares sits right in the sweet spot for what you’d expect from a Creepshow comic. You think this is a double-crossing murder tale, but it surprises you by turning into something much more. The ending is a bit anti-climactic, but the short is thoroughly entertaining overall.

Final Thoughts

CREEPSHOW (VOL. 2) #3 is a rock-solid horror comic with two shorts that look and feel very different in terms of subject matter and visuals but do an equally good job of nailing the horror of their respective plots. Farrely’s double-cross plot reads more like a traditional monster story, while Thorogood’s tragic tale of irony delivers plenty of horrific imagery.
