Is It Good?
CHERISH #4 takes more than a few twists and turns as Cherish draws closer to the full truth about her father’s death. Those twists and turns are sure to keep readers on their toes, but too many twists and turns, delivered mostly through expositional dialog, turn the issue into something closer to a TeleNovella soap opera than a cyber-tech thriller.
Mystery and surprises are good things when executed well. Katana Collins spares no effort in giving readers as much mystery and surprise as they can handle in this issue. Cherish and Connor’s romance moves from the engagement into the wedding planning stage, and Cherish uses the opportunity of a weekend getaway to track down one of her father’s old scientist associates. New characters and new revelations quickly follow to give the story complexity and clues to follow.
That said, sometimes less is more. For a penultimate issue, there’s a lot of new information to absorb concerning Cherish’s past, Chaya’s past, Connor’s past, the mystery assassin woman’s past, and more. Frankly, it’s not clear if all the pieces fit together because there are too many to sift through. The issue could have benefitted from some simplification.
Caitano and Remalante Jr.’s art is generally good. The coloring is on-point, so Remalante Jr. nails the atmosphere of the story. The figure work, however, is inconsistent. Some panels look great, and others don’t.

What’s It About?

Check out our CHERISH #3 review to find out when Connor popped the big question.
We begin with a flashback to Cheerish’s training days with Chaya in the insurgent camps. Cherish learns a big lesson about not relying on tech to overcome an enemy, a lesson she’ll need later.
Years later, Cherish and Chaya are still at odds over Chaya’s inability to talk about the assassin. Cherish leaves Chaya’s company on sour terms and heads to meet Connor for a post-engagement getaway. On their trip, Cherish invades the home of Dr. Skolguard, the scientist who helped Cherish’s father develop his technology. Skolguard is shocked to learn Cherish is alive, but before the two can catch up, Skolguard is murdered by the mystery assassin.
Now, we find Cherish, Chaya, and Elise waiting at the hospital where Connor was taken after his stabbing. We conclude the issue with loose lips, forced revelations, and surprise relationships.

Final Thoughts
(Click this link 👇 to order this comic)
CHERISH #4 deluges the reader with twists, turns, and more surprises than a soap opera during Sweeps Week. The art is generally good, and the story is certainly unpredictable, but the sheer volume of new information turns into overload, and the art quality is inconsistent in spots.
