Is CHARRED REMAINS #2 Good?

When last we left Amy, she was haunted by a fire-wielding figure after losing her family. Obsessed with stopping this “Fire Man,” she investigates fire incidents, capturing evidence she shows to Vic, a firefighter plagued by guilt and nightmares.

CHARRED REMAINS #2 opens with Amy visiting Jade in the hospital, only to find her whisked away to Hope’s House, a seemingly utopian haven for the homeless. Suspicious, Amy delves into the organization while Vic grapples with his own internal demons.

Jade disappears in Hope’s House’s seemingly too-good-to-be-true promises, leaving Amy alone in her investigation. Meanwhile, Vic battles his internal demons, wrestling with guilt and the possibility of a supernatural fire entity. While Amy tries to convince him of the Fire Man’s existence, their conflicting perspectives create friction, pushing them further apart.

What We Liked About Charred Remains #2:

  • Compelling Premise: The concept of a fire-wielding demon intertwined with Amy’s personal trauma sparks curiosity and raises intriguing questions.
  • Character Development: Both Amy and Vic experience internal struggles, fleshing out their personalities and motivations, making them more relatable.
  • World-Building: The introduction of Hope’s House adds another layer of mystery and hints at potential darkness beneath the surface.
  • Dramatic Conflict: The tension between Amy and Vic, despite their shared goal, creates an interesting dynamic and raises questions about trust and perception.

What We Didn’t Like About Charred Remains #2:

  • Slow Plot Progression: The main mystery surrounding the fireman remains largely stagnant, leaving readers with more questions than answers.
  • Focus on Exposition: While world-building is important, the issue spends a significant amount of time explaining things instead of advancing the plot, creating a slower pace.
  • Limited Action: Most of the story unfolds through dialogue and investigation, lacking the visual excitement of action sequences.

Art Quality:

Andrea Mutti’s art excels at capturing atmosphere and mood. The watercolor style, though unconventional, effectively conveys the unsettling nature of the story. However, some may find the focus on dialogue panels limiting and crave more dynamic visuals.

Final Thoughts

CHARRED REMAINS #2 is a decent issue, but it doesn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessor. While the character development and world-building are commendable, the lack of plot advancement and action leaves readers wanting more. Fans invested in Amy and Vic’s inner journeys may appreciate the deeper exploration, but others might find the slow pace frustrating.

Score: 6.5/10
