Is BLOODBORNE: THE BLEAK DOMINION #4 Good?
In the previous issue, Gretchen and Abraham navigated the catacombs, battling monsters in their relentless pursuit of Lucien. They discover Lucien isn’t lost; instead, he’s aligned with the monsters, influenced by a mysterious priest and a darker force. The issue set the stage for a confrontation with Lucien in this installment.
In BLOODBORNE: THE BLEAK DOMINION #4, Gretchen and Abraham confront Lucien, unraveling the truth about his allegiance to the Unholy Mother. Lucien, succumbing to The Scourge, is promised power in exchange for sacrificing Gretchen and Abraham. A fierce battle ensues, revealing a defensive mechanism in the Unholy Mother’s blood. Despite their efforts, Lucien remains under the influence, leading to a poignant resolution where Gretchen must make a heartbreaking decision.
What We Liked About Bloodborne: The Bleak Dominion #4: The comic delivers a solid ending, effectively concluding the spin-off to the video game. Action sequences are well-executed, and the Unholy Mother emerges as a formidable villain. Emotional beats, particularly with Gretchen, offer strong character development. The art by Piotr Kowalski shines, with improved techniques and a moody atmosphere that aligns perfectly with the dark, Gothic setting.
What We Didn’t Like About Bloodborne: The Bleak Dominion #4: Despite the overall positive aspects, the appearance and fight with the Unholy Mother felt somewhat subdued. The lack of a definitive defeat for the villain and Lucien’s unresolved fate left the ending feeling weak. The climax lacked the expected intensity, and the main villain’s impact fell short of expectations.
Art Quality: Piotr Kowalski’s artwork has consistently improved throughout the series. Clean lines and a moody atmosphere contribute to the Gothic horror feel. While facial details may lack in some areas, Kowalski excels in conveying expressions, especially for the monstrous characters. Overall, the art enhances the storytelling and captures the essence of the Bloodborne universe.
