Is BIG GAME #4 Good?
No, BIG GAME #4 is phenomenal. This is the issue, more than any previous, where Mark Millar takes full advantage of the title by setting up a massive war that spans eons. If you thought this story was big before, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
When last we left the quickly dwindling group of heroes, Hit-Girl and Eggsy infiltrated the villain base to find out what they were planning to do with the Chrononaut corpses. The spies get caught, and Eggsy dies in a shootout, but before the henchmen can kill Hit-Girl, she activates a Chornonaut suit for a hasty escape through Time.
Now, Hit-Girl finds more than dinosaurs 65 Million years in the past. An alien race, led by King Morax (from Millar’s Empress series), calls Earth home. When Morax’s faithful sorcerer divines Hit-Girl comes from a distant future where Morax is no longer ruler, the good king arranges a return trip to assert his dominance over Earth in every time.
Oopsie. Who knew the press of a button could lead to such terrible consequences? Literally, Hit-Girl makes things so much worse with a button push. Figuratively, Millar explodes the scale and stakes to atmospheric heights with that same button push. If Marvel or DC had any sense, they would hire Millar as Chief Story Editor to turn their sinking ships around.
What’s great about BIG GAME #4? Everything is great about BIG GAME #4. Millar’s pacing, dialog, scene development, and transitions are phenomenal. Just when you thought all hope was lost for the current generation of heroes, the story rips wide open with a crackerjack twist to make an already big story magnitudes bigger.
What’s not so great about BIG GAME #4? Nothing. Not a blessed thing. If there’s a flaw in this story, it’s microscopically small or visible only under a UV lamp. This is the type of storytelling the Comics Industry is starving for.
How’s the art? Fantastic. Pepe Larraz is delivering Grade-A work from start to finish. Despite the outlandish nature of the heroes and villains, everything is treated with an air of grit and seriousness to make the visuals as hard-hitting as possible.

Check out our BIG GAME #3 review to find out how Hit-Girl wound up among the dinosaurs.
We begin with Hit-Girl narrowly escaping a hungry dinosaur after the dino meets an unfortunate end at the tip of a spear delivered by an alien princess and her hunting party. The Princess’s escort, Captain Havelock, stuns Hit-Girl for capture.
Later, King Morax addresses his generals when his daughter arrives with Hit-Girl and a dead Chrononaut. Diabolos the sorcerer scans Hit-Girl’s mind to learn about the future, and regrettably, the lack of King Morax’s place in it. Determined to do something about his lack of dominance, King Morax orders Diabolos to adapt the Chrononaut tech.
We conclude the issue with a presidential summons that goes badly, a knot in the stomach, and an unexpected hole in the sky.
