Is BELLE: HOUSE OF GLASS SLIPPERS Good?
Wild is right. Dave Franchini bumps into Cinderella in the woods which forces the two to team up to fight trolls, gnomes, giant moths, and more to make their first team-up one to remember. Whether or not you’ll want to remember it is another matter.
Franchini’s script centers on Belle working out life as a hunter on her own when she spots an explosion in the woods. Cinderella is on the hunt for her giant moth friend, who mysteriously disappeared when Cinderella encountered hostile fairy folk. The rest, as they say, is history.
Technically, this issue is a continuation of both storylines from both characters’ respective titles. That said, this issue marks the first meeting between the two characters, and the story has more to do with Cinderella recent troubles in Fairy World than with Belle’s adventures.
What’s great about BELLE: HOUSE OF GLASS SLIPPERS? If you like an oversized comic with lots of fairytale creature massacring, you’re in for a treat. The first meeting between Belle and Cinderella is little more than an excuse to plop the two leads into the middle of a fight where they can slice and dice to their hearts’ content.
What’s not so great about BELLE: HOUSE OF GLASS SLIPPERS? We’re trying. We’re really trying, but Franchini can’t seem to get Cinderella to be anything more than a severely more obnoxious version of Harley Quinn without any of the personality. Crazy and violent isn’t a personality.
How’s the art? The art looks great. Jordi Tarragona is another of Zenescope’s heavy hitters who can consistently deliver high-quality artwork, so if you pick up this issue solely for the art, you’ll get your money’s worth.

What’s BELLE: HOUSE OF GLASS SLIPPERS About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
We begin with a sentient, human-sized moth named Delores foraging for leaves in the woods. Suddenly, a bright light blinds Delores, followed by a small explosion. Belle happens to be riding by on her motorcycle when she spots the bright light and heads to investigate. When Belle finds a partial wing on the ground, she doesn’t notice someone sneaking up behind her to knock her out.
When Belle comes around, she’s hanging over a large aquatic tank inhabited by a gentle manatee. Cinderella controls the rope, trying to intimidate Belle into divulging where Delores went. Belle manages to work free and turns the tables on Cinderella, but Belle concludes something fishy is going on in the woods, and she needs Cinderella to lead her to the spot where fairy folk gave the nutjob trouble earlier.
We conclude the issue with malicious fairy folks, a very hungry moth, and brewing trouble.

Final Thoughts

BELLE: HOUSE OF GLASS SLIPPERS marks the first meeting between Belle and Cinderella in a thinly veiled excuse to fight a bunch of malicious fairy folk. The issue is technically a Cinderella story with Belle on the side, but if you like both characters, you’ll get plenty. That said, Franchini turns Cinderella’s obnoxious dial up to 11, so plan your purchase accordingly.
