Analysis of Army Of Darkness Forever #10:
Plot Analysis:
When last we left Ash Williams in the assortment of timelines, bringing the three Necronomicons together opened a portal that sent Future Ash and his robots to current-day London to face Evil Ash. In the ensuing battle, most of the Deadites were destroyed, but Evil Ash defeated Future Ash in single combat. Meanwhile, Lady Sheila’s loss of her hand opened the door for her to be corrupted by Evil Ash in the past.
In Army Of Darkness #10, Evil-Present Ash stands victorious over Future Ash as London and the surrounding countryside burn. Evil-Present Ash, holding the Necronomicon is surprised when Future Ash scoffs at his adversary’s victory. The scoffing is well-deserved when Future Ash reminds Evil-Present Ash that the one Necronomicon he holds of the trio is the one that creates uncontrolled portals. Suddenly, the book opens up and sucks the entire crowd away to another time and place.
Well, if you can’t beat ’em with brawn, beat ’em with brains or a well-placed happy accident. Tony Fleecs uses a mild amount of comedic errors to upend Evil-Present Ash’s reign of terror. It’s not a jokey moment, but you certainly get the humor, and it works.
Meanwhile, Evil-Past Ash tempts the corrupted Lady Sheila to sit by his side as he plans to take over the world. Feeding on her pain and grief, Lady Sheila’s negative energy restores Evil-Past Ash’s face to his fully human form. Thankfully, Lady Sheila snaps out of it, picks up a flail, attaches the mounting cap to her severed hand, and wails away on Evil-Past Ash.
In a miniseries steeped in parallels, everyone could see a moment like this coming. When Lady Sheila lost her hand in issue #8, the probability that she would receive an Ash-styled upgrade jumped to nearly 100%. In fairness, her weapon of choice still looks pretty good.
The issue concludes with Future Ash, Evil-Present Ash and his Deadite Army, and the Necronomicons landing in the Past, a few kilometers from Lady Sheila’s location. Now, the timelines have converged back to 1300 A.D. heading into the penultimate issue.
Overall, Fleecs makes a smart choice by bringing the timelines together, even if the explanation surrounding how they split will probably never get addressed. Lady Sheila’s “upgrade” is a cool development, and bringing everyone together in the past makes the most sense to get this mini back on track.
Artwork and Presentation:
Pop Mhan’s artwork is decent enough for the wild wackiness on display in this issue. In fairness, you could never pick these characters out of a crowd as representatives of their real-life counterparts, but this issue is all about the gonzo action, so Mhan gets a thumbs up for action and energy.

The Bigger Picture:
Series Continuity:
Give credit to Tony Fleecs for finding a way to bring the timelines together that keeps the issues sequentially aligned. Issues #9 and #10 feel like a continuous run-up to a grand climax, so here’s hoping Fleecs can finish the miniseries stronger than it started.

Army Of Darkness Forever #10 brings the timelines and the Ashs together in a wild, gonzo fight with twists and surprises. Fleecs struggled in the earlier issues to make this series make sense, but this issue feels like the threads are converging into a proper finale, and Mhan’s art earns points for pure action and energy alone.
