Is ANUBIS PROPHECY #1 Good?
ANUBIS PROPHECY #1 kicks off the latest fantasy adventure from Graham Misiurak (Yuki vs. Panda) about descendants of Anubis’s followers who band together to resurrect the god or kill anyone who gets in their way. Misiurak’s fanciful tale mixes mythology, magic, and murder for a unique fantasy.
Misiurak’s script centers on Mischa, a girl who learns she possesses part of Anubis’s power after her parents were tragically killed. When a malevolent cult leader seeks to add Mischa to his ranks, Mischa goes on the run while learning the extent of her supernatural abilities.
To Misiurak’s credit, the mythology aspects are handled concisely and efficiently, so no background knowledge of ancient Egyptian gods is required. Once the world and the players are set up, Misiurak launches into the conflict in the present day to keep the setting and the surroundings of the characters relatable.
What’s great about ANUBIS PROPHECY #1? The highlight of this issue is its core premise. Bringing an aspect of ancient mythology to the present with a unique hook serves Misiurak’s story well. The characters have distinctive voices, and the ending is strong enough to get you wondering about what happens next.
What’s not so great about ANUBIS PROPHECY #1? Overall, there are no glaring problems with this issue. It’s a solid start.
How’s the art? J.C. Grande’s art style is typically good for an indie offering. The linework and details are lacking in several spots, but the art is good enough to convert the story Misiurak is telling.

What’s ANUBIS PROPHECY #1 About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
We begin with a brief prologue explaining the relationship between gods and humans in ancient Egypt. When the strength of humanity led to a decline in faith, the gods soon fell powerless. Anubis, in a desperate move, gifted his powers and a trace of immortality to five disciples tasked with resurrecting the god someday.
Now, Lucien Blackthorne leads the Brotherhood of Anuba, a cult dedicated to consolidating all descendants of the original five disciples to complete Anubis’s resurrection. Mischa, a young girl orphaned after a tragic car accident, unwittingly realizes she carries a piece of Anubis’s power. Lucien stops at nothing to capture Mischa, even if it means killing Mischa’s protector, Raphael.
We conclude the issue with getting off the grid, a quiet drink, and something “familiar.”
