Is ALICE COOPER (VOL. 2) #5 Good?
In the last issue, Satan and Alice Cooper engaged in a musical competition to determine the greatest musician in the world. Despite Alice Cooper winning, Satan proposes a best two out of three, leading to a perplexing agreement by Alice. This odd decision sets the stage for the events in the finale.
ALICE COOPER (VOL. 2) #5 unfolds as Satan, unwilling to play fair, sends demons after Alice Cooper. With the help of the angel Gabriel, they thwart the demonic threat and proceed to the second round of competition. After an intense musical battle ending in a tie, Satan suggests a third round. Alice, for reasons not entirely clear, agrees. In this round, Alice utilizes a magical guitar from Gabriel to master a difficult chord, ultimately defeating Satan and banishing him back to Hell.
What We Liked About Alice Cooper (Vol. 2) #5: The satisfaction of seeing the devil get his due is a highlight. Regardless of the convoluted journey, witnessing Alice Cooper outshine Satan as the superior musician is a win. The concept of beating back the devil through musical prowess adds a unique twist, and the presence of real-life musical guest stars like Janis Joplin, David Bowie, and Freddie Mercury adds a fun factor for fans of these legendary artists.
What We Didn’t Like About Alice Cooper (Vol. 2) #5: Unfortunately, the negatives overshadow the positives. The pacing feels clunky and disjointed, particularly during scenes involving demons. The plot’s lack of coherence becomes apparent, as the repetitive nature of the musical competition with Satan feels forced and illogical. The predictability of the storyline and the overall lack of originality contribute to a less-than-thrilling reading experience.
Art Quality: The art by Edu Menna, while rendering Alice Cooper and demons well, falls short in capturing energy and flow. The stiffness and lack of smoothness in the illustrations contribute to the overall disjointed feel of the issue. The artistic choices might be partly influenced by the script, but it’s clear that the art impacts the storytelling negatively.

In ALICE COOPER (VOL. 2) #5, the mediocrity that plagued the entire miniseries persists. The predictable premise, bizarrely nonsensical plot points, and clunky execution make for a lackluster reading experience. From concept to execution, the series fails to deliver a compelling narrative. Despite some cool elements like the magical guitar and cameos from iconic musicians, the overall mediocrity remains a disappointment.
