Is ALICE COOPER (VOL. 2) #3 Good?
Short, sweet, and snappy. Rodney Barnes takes Alice Cooper to predictable but entertaining places in ALICE COOPER (VOL. 2) #3. The plot may sound very familiar, but at least you’ll have fun reading it.
When last we left Alice Cooper, Gabriel the Archangel gifted the legendary rocker a magic guitar that turned demons to dust. Now, the Devil sends endless hordes of demons after Alice, knowing the mortal can only play for so long before giving out. When Gabriel steps in for an assist, the rescue leads to an idea that could save the day.
If you’re wondering whether more famous musicians make cameos in this issue, they do not. The musical Easter Eggs are all but absent as Barnes puts all focus squarely on Alice Cooper and his dust-up with the Devil.
What’s great about ALICE COOPER (VOL. 2) #3? Issue #2 turned out to be an oddity because it effectively resets the first issue and starts the story over. Thankfully, ALICE COOPER (VOL. 2) #3 moves the story forward with brisk pacing, tight dialog, and meaty progress on the plot.
What’s not so great about ALICE COOPER (VOL. 2) #3? Alice’s inspired plan is uncomfortably familiar. When you consider prior works like the song The Devil Went Down To Georgia and the film Crossroads (1986), you can see where Barnes is going from a mile away. Unless Barnes comes up with a different outcome for Alice’s plan, this mini will be regarded as a lazy story idea.
How’s the art? The art’s great. Edu Menna captures the essence of Alice’s likeness without getting creepy (in a bad way), the demon-destroying moments are visually engaging, and Augusto’s coloring is solid.

What’s ALICE COOPER (VOL. 2) #3 About?
[SPOILERS AHEAD – Click here if you just want the score without spoilers]
Check out our ALICE COOPER (VOL. 2) #2 review to find out where Alice got his snazzy new guitar.
We begin with a brief prologue from the Devil narrating his version of the events during the Garden of Eden and the Fall of Humanity. The prologue sets up his motivation to become a music legend.
Now, Alice obliterates demons summoned by the Devil with the power of his magic guitar. The Devil knows Alice can’t play forever, so he summons scores upon scores of demons to wear the rocker down. When the demon numbers become overwhelming, Gabriel appears and transports Alice to safety.
We conclude the issue with a meeting place and a bargain struck.

Final Thoughts

ALICE COOPER (VOL. 2) #3 is brisk, snappy, and entertaining. Edu Menna’s art captures the spirit of the famous rocker, and Barnes’s script is solid. That said, Alice’s plan to defeat the devil is so predictable that it’s almost boilerplate.
